Description

The doom of giants is to be the heart of legend, and Georg Friedrich Händel, first of the great entrepreneurial composers, was no exception. Born February 23, 1685 to a middle-class barber-surgeon’s1 family at Halle in Saxony, Händel was well brought up and educated. His father disapproved of a career in music, and hoped for his son to become a lawyer; it is rumored that a friend smuggled a clavichord into the attic, and on this instrument, inaudible behind a closed door, young Georg Friedrich practiced in secrecy.
