Ignazio Prover, hautboïste de la Musique du roi de Sardaigne, fut actif à Turin à la cour de Victor Amédée II (1666-1732) et de son fils, Charles Emmanuel (1701-1773), ducs de Savoie, et rois de Sardaigne depuis 1720. Turin, capitale des États de Savoie, jouissait en ce temps-là d’une vie artistique florissante : dans le domaine de la musique, dès le milieu du XVIIe siècle, la cour entretenait un ensemble de vingt musiciens et une douzaine de chanteurs, puis en 1672, le duc de Savoie avait créé une bande de vingt-quatre violons et une « Écurie » sur le modèle des Vingt-quatre Violons et de la Grande Écurie du roi de France… / Ignazio Prover, oboist in the orchestra of the King of Sardinia, was active in Turin at the court of Vittorio Amedeo II (1666-1732) and his son Carlo Emanuele III (1701-1773), Dukes of Savoy, and Kings of Sardinia from 1720. In Turin, the capital of Savoy – the court had settled there in 1563 – artistic life was flourishing at that time. In the mid-seventeenth century the court kept twenty musicians and a dozen singers. Then in 1672 Duke Carlo Emanuele II had gathered the violinists in his service into a banda, numbering twenty-four instrumentalists, in imitation of the French Vingt-quatre Violons, and an ‘Écurie’ based on the model of the Grande Écurie of the King of France.
