Description

Paul Kuentz not only enjoys conducting baroque music but he also takes a constant interest in works of the present day, as may be seen from this recording which presents five pieces that were premièred by him and which he has taken with him all over the world-Europe, the United States, Canada, South Africa …The Serenade for Strings by Daniel-Lesur (b. 1908) was composed in 1954. It evokes the character of Don Juan and its opening Allegretto includes a Spanish “serenada” based on a theme by Maurice Ohana, to whom the work is dedicated .. The central Adagio is in the form of a song to a slow swaying of octaves, while the final Allegro marcato is based on a Pyrenean folk tune, the “Danse du Baïar”.
