Les douze Concerti grossi con duoi violini e violoncello di concertino obligati, e cluoi altri violini, viola e basso di concerto grosso ad arbiltrio op. 6 de Corelli parurent à titre posthume en 1714 chez l’éditeur Roger à Amsterdam. Le compositeur était mort un an auparavant, le 8 janvier 1713, au terme d’une carrière glorieuse qui s’était essentiellement déroulée à Rome, en dépit d’un voyage en Allemagne et d’un séjour à Naples, à l’invitation du vice-roi d’Espagne. Selon un témoignage de l’organiste allemand Georg Muffat qui les entendit lors d’un voyage dans la Ville Eternelle vers 1682, ces concertos auraient été commencés plus de trente ans avant leur publication, c’est-à-dire à l’époque où l’ancien violoniste de Saint-Louis des Français s’apprêtait à entrer au service du cardinal Panfili et du Cardinal Ottobini, comme violoniste et chef d’orchestre…
Corelli’s twelve Concel’ti grossi con duoi violini e violoncello di concertino obligati, e duoi altl’i viofini, viola e basso di concerto ad arbitrio op.6 were published posthumously in Amsterdam by Rogel’ in 1714. The composer had died the previous year on 8 January 1713, at the end of a glorious cueer spent mostly in Rome, despite a tl’ip to Germany and a stay in Naples at the invitation of the viceroy of Spain. According to an account by the German organist Georg Muffat, who heard the Concerti Grossi during a trip to the Eternal City in about 1682, these concertos were begun over thirty years before their publication, that is to say during the time when the tonner violinist of S. Luigi dei Francesi was about to enter the service of Cardinal Panfili and Cardinal Ottoboni, as violinist and music master.
