Claveciniste, il occupa d’abord le poste de joueur de pantaléon, sorte de grand dulcimer ou tympanon chromatique à cordes de boyau que l’on jouait avec des petits maillets… / The harpsichordist Christlieb Siegmund Binder was born in July 1723 in Dresden, where he spent the whole of his life. It was as a pantaleonist that he became a court musician, the pantaleon (occasionally referred to as ‘pantalon’) being a sort of large dulcimer with double strings of metal and gut, played with small hammers.
