” – Jean-Michel Molkhou
One last wink from Paradise
So today is a new episode, but perhaps not the last, in a fantastic Ivry Gitlis discographic itinerary that is appearing – a quarter of a century late, like one last wink from Paradise. In what turns out to be his final official studio recording with orchestra, this magician of the violin brought together pieces he had played throughout his life, most of which he recorded several times with piano accompaniment. In particular his favourite Kreisler miniatures, played on all the world’s concert platforms with the irresistible charm of that personal beat, or else this Nigun by Bloch that can move you to tears. But it also contains two short pieces by Rodrigo and Bizet, brand new to his discography.
