Talgorn – Vinum et Sanguinem / Ode à St-Vincent

Cantate en trois parties pour récitant, soprano solo, baryton solo, choeur mixte, ensemble instrumental. Chaque année, une multitude de fêtes consacrées au vin anime la région de Bourgogne dont la plus importante est la «Saint Vincent Tournante». Tel est le cadre dans lequel s’inscrit la création de «Vinum et Sanguinem». L’origine du choix de Saint Vincent comme patron, n’a jamais pu être expliqué de manière satisfaisante, le vin n’étant pas un élément de la légende de Saint Vincent ; et bien que plusieurs solutions aient été proposées, aucune d’entre elles n’a jusqu’à présent fait l’unanimité des chercheurs. Parmi toutes les explications avancées, une a particulièrement attirée mon attention, à la fois par sa simplicité et sa profondeur: le choix de Saint Vincent trouverait son origine dans la phonétique: Vincent (Vin/Sang)…

Cantata in three parts for narrator, solo soprano, solo baritone, mixed choir, instrumental ensemble and organ. Every year a multitude of festivities to do with wine are held in the region of Burgundy, and most of them are placed under the protection of St Vincent. “Vinum et Sanguinem” was first performed in that context. There has been no satisfactory explanation for the choice of St Vincent as the patron saint of wine-growing, wine in fact having nothing to do with the legend of St Vincent; although several solutions have been put forward, none of them has so far gained the unanimous approval of researchers. Amongst the explanations proposed, one in particular attracted my attention, for its simplicity and depth: the choice of St Vincent may have a phonetic origin, the name Vincent breaking down into Vin/Sang – Wine and Blood…
