Dès la deuxième moitié du XVIIIème siècle et dans la première moitié du siècle suivant, le duo pour violon et alto a gagné la faveur des compositeurs. A côté des noms de Josef Haydn et de Mozart, on citera parmi d’autres ceux de Cambini, Stamitz, Michael Haydn, Viotti, Bruni, Pleyel, Hoffmeister qui à leur tour cultivèrent ce genre, mais de nombreuses partitions souvent méconnues dorment encore dans les tiroirs des bibliothèques… /During the second half of the eighteenth century and into the first half of the nineteenth, the duo for violin and viola found favour with composers. Beside the names of Joseph Haydn and Mozart, we find those of Cambini, Stamitz, Michael Haydn, Viotti, Bruni, Pleyel and Hoffmeister, all of whom cultivated the genre, but numerous scores still lie dormant on library shelves…
