Si l’on ne connaît pas la date exacte de la composition des six Quatuors op. 76, avant-dernière série de quatuors écrits par Haydn – le manuscrit autographe ayant disparu -, on admet néanmoins, témoignages à l’appui, que l’ex-maître de chapelle des princes Esterhazy les acheva en 1797…
As the autograph manuscript has disappeared, we do not know the exact date of composition of the six String Quartets op. 76. However, it is generally admitted – and all available evidence points 10 the fact – that the former Kapellmeister to the Esterhazy princes completed them in 1797.
