Louis Antoine Dornel serait né en 1685, la même année que Bach, Scarlatti et Haendel, à Béthemont-la-Forêt, près de Pontoise, à quelques kilomètres de Paris. On ne sait rien de son apprentissage musical et de ses débuts. Peut-être travailla-t-il avec Nicolas Lebègue, organiste de Saint-Merry et de la Chapelle royale, expert en facture d’orgue et excellent claveciniste, et fréquenta-t-il la demeure de ce grand musicien qui aimait à réunir autour de lui ses élèves, des compositeurs, des organiers, des facteurs de clavecins, des éditeurs… / Louis Antoine Dornel is thought to have been born in 1685, the same year as Bach, Scarlatti and Handel, at Béthemont-la-Forêt, near Pontoise, a few kilometres from Paris. We know nothing of his musical training nor of his start in the profession. Perhaps he may have worked with Nicolas Lebègue, the organist of Saint-Merry and of the Chapelle Royale, an expert on organ design and an excellent harpsichordist, and frequented the home of that great musician, who liked to gather his pupils around him, along with composers, organ- and harpsichord-builders, and music publishers.
