Description

Although Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck never left the Netherlands, munuscripts by him have been found in several European countries.
A German edition of his psalms (Berlin 1616) confirmed his reputation by referring to his “world renown”.
Sweelinck came at a key period in European musical history: polyphony was producing its ultimate treasures, while monophonic music, along with specific instrumental styles, was appearing. His way a very rich period, marked by such figures as Monteverdi, Vittoria, Claude Le Jeune, Frescobaldi, and many others.
