C’’est en mars 1721 que Jean-Sébastien Bach, alors directeur de la musique du jeune prince Léopold d’Anhalt-Coethen, adressa au margrave Christian Ludwig de Brandebourg, en réponse à une commande passée deux ans auparavant, la version définitive de Six Concerts avec plusieurs instruments. Sa dédicace rédigée en bon français laisse à penser qu’il espérait par-là obtenir un poste à la chapelle princière : il semble malheureusement que le margrave ne répondit jamais à cet hommage..
In March 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach, who was then director of music to the young Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cothen, dedicated the definitive version of his Six Concerts avec plusieurs instruments to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg. His dedication, written in good French, seems to indicate that he was thus hoping to obtain a post at the prince’s chapel. Unfortunately, the Margrave never responded to his tribute…
