Il y a tout juste un siècle, le 12 juin 1897, Alexandre Tansman naissait à Lodz en Pologne. Esprit brillant et exceptionnellement doué, dès l’âge de vingt et un ans il terminait conjointement à Varsovie ses études juridiques et ses études musicales. En dépit de son très jeune âge il était déjà l’auteur de plusieurs œuvres orchestrales, dont une Première Symphonie dont le manuscrit n’a toujours pas été retrouvé. La Pologne, redevenue indépendante à l’issue de la guerre de 1914-1918, organise alors un concours national de composition où le jeune musicien remporte les trois premiers prix. Malgré ce succès éclatant, en cette même année 1919, Alexandre Tansman décide de partir pour Paris afin d’y poursuivre sa carrière dans un cadre plus approprié au déploiement de son talent. / Alexandre Tansman was born in Lodz (Poland) just a century ago: on 12 June 1897. Endowed with a brilliant mind and exceptional talent, he studied law and music in Warsaw at the same time, completing his studies when he was 21. In spite of his tender age, he had already composed several orchestral works, including a Symphony No.1, the manuscript of which was lost and has never been found. A year after World War I, Poland had once again become independant and was then organizing a national composition competition in which the young Tansman won the first three prizes. Despite this dazzling success, he decided to leave for Paris the same year in order to pursue his career in a setting he felt would be more appropriate for displaying his talents.
