Largement sollicitée aux XIIe et XVIIIe siècles, la trompette, en laquelle Charles Koechlin voyait l’une des lumières de l’orchestre, a connu une étonnante éclipse en tant qu’instrument soliste à l’époque romantique. Ce n’était que pour mieux renaître au XXe siècle, peut-être en partie grâce au jazz où elle a joué un rôle essentiel et qui lui a permis de trouver une application nouvelle. Toutes les œuvres interprétées ici par Eric Aubier constituent des premières mondiales, que ce soit dans leur version originale ou dans leur version avec orchestre. Toutes ressortissent au meilleur style français que l’on dit volontiers fait de charme, d’élégance et d’esprit… / The trumpet—which Charles Koechlin described as ‘one of the leading lights of the orchestra’—enjoyed great popularity between the 12th and 18th centuries, but, surprisingly, it fell out of favour as a solo instrument in the 19th century, during the Romantic period. In the 20th century, however, it experien-ced a strong revival, partly perhaps as a result of jazz, which provided a new outlet and in which it played an essential role.
