Né le 27 janvier 1928 à Bordeaux dans un milieu musical, Jean-Michel Damase est le fils de la grande harpiste Micheline Kahn qui inspira de nombreux compositeurs et mena une action marquante en faveur de son instrument : c’est à la jeune Micheline Kahn, premier prix de harpe au Conservatoire en 1904, que revient ainsi d’avoir créé en 1907 l’Introduction et Allegro pour harpe, flûte, clarinette et quatuor à cordes de Maurice Ravel, commande de la Maison Érard… / Jean-Michel Damase was born into a musical family in Bordeaux on 27 January 1928. He is the son of the renowned harpist Micheline Kahn (1889-1987), who inspired many composers (she gave the first performance of Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro in 1907, for example) and did much to further the popularity of her instrument.
