Supplantant peu à peu le clavecin, son concurrent, cet instrument nouveau allait bientôt donner naissance à une littérature riche et variée, mais encore trop méconnue aujourd’hui. / The years 1760-1770 marked the appearance of the pianoforte in France. Gradually supplanting its competitor, the harpsichord, this new ins-trument was soon to give rise to a rich and varied literature which even today remains little appreciated.
